The easiest way to get up and running with Minoca OS is to run it from Windows using the included Qemu PC emulator. This requires no installation or reboot, as it's run entirely within a simulated environment.
Host System Requirements
- Windows XP or later
- 512MB RAM
- 2GB Disk space
Make sure you downloaded the Minoca OS Starter Pack and that it has been extracted, the scripts cannot be run from directly within the archive. Once the archive has been extracted, navigate into the MinocaOS directory.
Double click run.bat to start up Qemu with Minoca OS. A kernel debugger will also start and connect to the Qemu instance via a named pipe. By default, the emulator starts with 256MB of RAM and networking enabled. Feel free to edit run.bat to change these parameters. Try breaking into the debugger by hitting Control+B. Type "k" to see the call stack where you broke in, and "g" to let the system go again. The "help" command provides an overview of debugger commands. Head back to the getting started page for more activities with Minoca OS.
